Plans have been announced to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway (S & DR), which opened on September 27, 1825.
Celebration includes special steam locomotive rides, exhibitions, parades, arts and theater events. The main event is a replica of the first trip from Witton Park to Stockton via Shildon and Darlington, using Locomotion No. 1 replicas that can be broadcast in real time around the world, and is a permanent tourism linking museums. A regular steam shuttle service runs between Stockton and Shildon and stops at Darlington. Cross the Skerne Bridge, built for the Stockton and Darlington Railway and used on the first train on the first day.
