A 59-year-old Liverpool man was charged with derailing a train at Kirkby Station last year.

On March 13, Merseyrail Class 507 (507006) passed Kirkby's buffer, but no one was injured.

In a preliminary investigation, RAIB stated that the train was approaching the station at 42mph before the driver performed an emergency stop.

Philip Hollis of Liverpool has been charged with endangering the safety of railway people.

The BTP states that he will appear in the Liverpool Magistrates' Court on February 8. Kirkby Station is the transfer point for Merseyrail and Northern Services, with two buffers in between.
