Churchward County Trust (CCT) announces possession of several key components needed to build the new Great Western Railway (GWR) 3800 "Churchward County" Class No. 3840 "Montgomery County" Did. ..

The Great Western Society (GWS), based at the Didcot Railway Center (DRC), donated these parts to the CCT to support the project. The component was already preserved by GWS for the construction of GWR 440 County, but the association did not start the 3800 class as other new construction and restoration projects are underway. When the CCT was formed, GWS agreed to transfer these parts to the Trust once some important milestones were achieved.

The transferred components are:

From GWR 280T5205 class number 5227

GWR Standard No.4 Boiler No.5212-This type of boiler was built in 1923 and installed in Churchward countries and many other classes.

To form a dolly for the Pony Truck Wheelset-3840 with both wheelset bearings

4 horn guides (if appropriate)

Two eccentric discs

From other locomotives

Churchward 3,500 Gallon Tender # 2143 Rolling Undercarriage-Suitable for Restoration

4 Wheelset Bearings for Coupling Wheels-From -2800280 No.2861

Plans are underway to ship these components to the Tidesley locomotive plant and combine them with the mainframe to prepare for future evaluation of repair work. 3500 Gallon Tender Chassis // Credit CCT Collection

Gary Boyd Hope, Chairman of the Churchward County Trust, said: The company has been very supportive of our project from the beginning and has already provided a model for casting the coupling wheel No. 3840. His support demonstrates his great confidence in CCT and his belief in his ability to reach our goals.

"Formally handing over these parts means that we have all the key parts (frames, boilers, wheels, cylinders, bids) needed to complete the locomotive. There's still a lot and you have to raise a lot of money, but the most important part of the puzzle is in place.
