The modernization of the Transport for Wales (TfW) fleet of 27 Coradia class 175 long-distance trains has been completed.

The overhaul was at the Technology Center in Widnes, Cheshire, and was part of train maker Alstom, where TfW invested £ 40 million in its current train set.

The first refurbished train will offer improved passenger facilities such as USB and charging stations, new toilet seats, modified seats, new carpets and new interiors. Externally, the train has been renamed to TfW livery.

The TfW overhaul program also includes a fleet of Class 153 and 158, which are nearing completion, but overhaul work for a Class 150 sprinter is underway.

In addition to its modernization program, TfW has invested more than £ 800 million in a fleet of new trains operating on the Wales and Borders Network later this year. Stuart Mills, TfW's Fleet Engineering Manager, said: Whether it's 20 minutes or 4 hours, business or leisure, we know it's very important for our customers to travel comfortably and charge their devices on the go. "We are building a new train, but it will take time to build and we want our customers to have a comfortable experience. Therefore, the completion of this massive work is now and in the future. Another important step in building a better railroad for generations. "

Peter Broadley, Managing Director of Services at Alstom, said: This is where the train runs. "

David Jordan, Chief Operating Officer of Angel Trains, said: We are pleased to work with our industry partners to modernize this vehicle and provide a modern train suitable for all TfW passengers. "
