Class 47 Diesel Locomotive No.47 077 NORTH STAR will be based on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) for the next two years.
As the D1661, the North Star was built by BR at Crewe Works in 1965 and is famous for being the last locomotive built on June 19, 1965.
At various times in his career, it was numbered 47 077, 47 613 and 47 840.
On Monday, May 28, 2007, on Bank Holiday, Loco Number D1661 ran the last special train from Derby to Minehead.
At around 2:30 pm, the train was pulled into the Minehead stand at the end of the mainline carrier, and a new train was launched by the West Somerset Railway (WSR) Diesel and Electricity Conservation Group (D & EPG). The Diesel and Electric Preservation Group (D & EPG) purchased loco from the British Rail in 2007 for preservation. After leaving mainline service, Loco went to Loughborough's Brush Traction, did a light overhaul, repainted with the original two-tone green coloring, and restored the dual brakes. The D1661 has been used regularly in WSR and was a reliable performer until the end of service at the end of the 2018 season due to body wear, especially the roof.
It was then repaired and sold on BR Blue, with a TOPS designation of 47 077, a red replica of the familiar BR double-arrow logo and the coloring worn when handed over to the Cardif Canton in the late 1970s. The back nameplate has been assigned. ..
On June 21, 2021, 47077 left his home in Williton's Old Goods Shed to become WSR's Bishop Slidered.
