£ 475,000 was raised for the necessary improvements to the locomotive construction of the Severn Valley Railway in Bridgnorth, Shropshire.
The Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust has announced that the fund has achieved its goals thanks to 3,000 donors and grants from around the world.
A locomotive factory redesign plan is currently underway. The roof has a lot of holes and is badly leaking and needs urgent repair. In addition to repairs, energy efficiency measures and better lighting and insulation are in place. Another welcome part of the project is the installation of overhead cranes that allow engineers working on locomotives to move heavy objects safely and easily.
After a detailed evaluation of the competitive bidding of the finalists, four contractors were selected to carry out the work. In particular, the emphasis is on implementing requirements effectively and safely in a real-world work environment. Work needs to be completed this year.
Important to this project are railroad volunteers who have donated over £ 40,000 in time. The project is managed under the supervision of professional structural engineers and project managers with experience in contracting and project programming, as well as volunteer professionals, including qualified architects.
Martin White, Technical Director of SVR. “This project makes a big difference between volunteers and paid staff who work hard to keep locomotives in operation.
"Volunteers are already paving the way and are doing small construction work that needs to be completed before the prime contractor can start. Refurbished to provide a competitively priced solution for all needs. A deposit was also paid for the used overhead crane. "
Shelagh Paterson, Chief Executive Officer of SVR Charitable Trust, said: Locomotive factories are essential to the operation of the Severn Valley Railway and help to provide many with a memorable experience. I am looking forward to the change. "
